The Mexican open is a professional men’s tennis tournament that is part of the ATP 500 series and is currently known as “Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC due to sponsorship with HSBC, a Mexican financial services company, and Telcel, a Mexican telecommunication company.

The 2024 Abierto Mexicano Telcel presented by HSBC is scheduled to begin from 27 February 2024 to 04 March 2024 at Arena GNP Seguros in Acapulco, Mexico.

Venue

Arena GNP Seguros is a tennis sports complex that was completed in 2024 to host the Mexican Open, and it will also host other sports events and concerts in the future. The arena has a food court, three show courts, restaurants, and many other facilities for the spectators. It has a seating capacity of approximately 10,500 people but can differ according to the nature of the event.

History

The inaugural event was held in 1993 on the ATP tour. Initially, it was held in Mexico City and relocated to Acapulco in 2001. The tournament was played on outdoor clay courts from its inception till 2013. Since 2014, it is played on outdoor clay courts.

The previous tournament of the Mexican open took place in 2024 and was won by Rafael Nadal, a Spanish professional tennis player. It was Nadal’s fourth title in the tournament.

The 2024 Mexican Open offers a lucrative prize pool of $2,187,980.
